Philippine Consulate General Officers and Staff Earn American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certificates!

CHICAGO 12 May 2023 – The officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago earned Basic Life Support (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation [CPR] and Automated External Defibrillator [AED] Program) certificates after undergoing hands-on training at the Consulate General’s Kalayaan Hall. The training was conducted by Illinois Safety, a company certified by the American Heart Association (AHA). The training, which equipped Consulate General personnel with know-how on effectively responding to emergency situations and developing essential life-saving skills, was part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program.

Conducted by Mr. Joe Witz and Mr. Brandon Rodriguez of Illinois Safety, which is owned and operated by firefighters and paramedics within Chicago, the two-hour training provided an overview of Basic Life Support skills, a detailed demonstration of CPR techniques, a lecture and demonstration on the proper use of an AED, and what to do when someone is choking. PCG personnel were then divided into three (03) groups for the hands-on session in performing CPR and proper AED operation. A test on what was learned was given after.

Consul General J. Susana V. Paez thanked Illinois Safety for conducting the hands-on training. She strongly encouraged the personnel to echo-train what they learned to their family members reminding all of the value of their newly-acquired skills that empowers them to handle emergency situations.
